Dog handler told how to protect yourself from wild dogs

A cynologist told how to protect yourself from wild dogs

The fear of being attacked by dogs is more or less present in many people, especially if they have to pass by abandoned places. The radio station "Moscow Speaks" interviewed Vladimir Urazhevsky, president of the Union of Cynologists of Russia and the International Cynological Union. The expert told how to avoid dog attacks and what to do in case of an attack.

According to the expert, first of all, it is important not to provoke dogs: "It is not necessary to walk through industrial zones at night. If you still find yourself in a deserted place, and a dog attacked you, the expert advises "to press against the wall, see if you can get up." Perhaps there will be a fence nearby. You can also pick up an object that happens to be nearby, for example, a stick or a stone, but this should be done slowly, calmly, without swinging.

The dog handler also noted that dogs can't see well in the dark, so you can raise your hands up. Thanks to this, the animal may decide that you are much bigger, and it is not worth contacting you. What you definitely don't need to do is wave your hands at the dogs and run away. In the first case, stray dogs can begin to defend themselves, and in the second – behave even more aggressively.

Urazhevsky noted that "if there is some kind of varnish, cologne, perfume, spray, then you can use it. If there is some kind of smell, then dogs will never contact you – it's unusual and unpleasant for them."

The specialist warned that when receiving bites, it is important to immediately consult a doctor, since sick animals most often attack people. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
